Judges have never been expected to write their verdicts in Hindi, so it is not at all surprising that there is no instance of any Judge in India writing a book in Hindi ever.
That’s why retired Judge of the Patna High Court Justice Anand Prasad Sinha becomes an exception among his fraternity, whose latest book — Ek Nyayadheesh Ki Chintandhaara Evam Atmkahaani — scripted in Hindi is now on stands.
Though very short, but in a candid conversation with The Pioneer amid repeated interruptions from his family members and loved ones who had gathered on the occasion of his 60th marriage anniversary-cum-book launch, the Judge in Sinha opened up himself to be judged.
On being asked about how he got inspired by writing a book in Hindi, that also an autobiography, he said with his child-like smile, “More than a decade ago I had written a book named —“Corruption and Bribery: A Socio Pathological Case”. After writing that book, I had been continuously thinking of coming up with a book in Hindi, which would not be confined strictly around law and specific cases. But it took so much time, as I was searching someone who must be humane while editing and proof-reading some material which had been written with utter emotions and honesty. The moment I met with retired professor of Hindi from RU Ashok Priyadarshi, the things turned much easier.”
He claimed this book was more a law book, than an autobiography, and rightly so, as almost every page of the book contains one example or instance or reference from law or of his personal experience as a judge.
So, what this book exactly isIJ
“This is as an autobiography, as well as a book of law for law students, and law fraternity. There are instances in the book where I have listened to my soul while disposing off a verdict within the law. I deeply believe that those in the profession of disposing off justice must do so in tandem with their heart and conscience. As a Judge, we are bound to remain in the diameters of law. But a human in us must be alive. This is why before every judgment I placed myself in the accused box.”
So what is his message to the young ones in the professionIJ “Again, just be humane. Think once if you were in those situations of the accused in front of you is said to be, what would you doIJ And justice turns much easier, much still”.
