B.Ed exam row keeps VBU VC in tailspin

Published on:

On the second day of taking charge as VC VBU, Prof Gurdeep Singh had taken some vital decisions in which conducting exam of students of session 2012-13 of affiliated B.Ed colleges was an important one. As per the decision, exam will be conducted but the result will be withheld on the ground that the matter is in court.

On January 29, the B.Ed students of session 2013-14 assembled at VBU headquarters demanding the initiation of their exam process as their session has ended months ago. On the same day, the VBU administration started the process and published the programme of filling of examination form and the date of start of their exam.

Perhaps, it impressed those waiting for their result for the last 6-7 months. On Saturday, they came in large numbers and forced the university administration to talk with them. VC Prof Gurdeep Singh himself came out to talk with them but failed to satisfy them. “The decisions you have taken indicate that former Acting VC-cum- commissioner SS Meena was anti-student, anti-teacher, is it soIJ” It was the question asked by The Pioneer in the first meet with the VC, which had irked him.

On that day, he escaped without giving any answer but now when that hurried decision has increased his headache then he should certainly look back to find what was wrong in his decision which drew that question. Present Principal Secretary of the Governor Nitin Madan Kulkarni is also an important part of this story. He had constituted a team to investigate the irregularity in admissions by private B.Ed colleges as acting vice-chancellor of VBU.

When SS Meena took charge, he ordered to take examination of B.Ed students of only Government B.Ed colleges and units running in constituent colleges. The association of private B.Ed colleges moved High Court. The court ordered VBU administration to take their exams too as immediate relief but since the decision came only 48 hours before the start of examination so the VBU administration decided to adhere on its scheduled programme and honour the court’s decision after putting its side of story before the court.

The present hurried decision of VC VBU to start the process of examination of session 2013-14 is also going to give him pain in future. As per their notification, the B.Ed exam of session 2013-14 will start by the end of February. If the court’s final verdict will not come by then, what will those examinee do who will fail in 2012-13 exam. In VBU, it was in talks till now that no one fails in B.Ed and this decision seems to be official approval of these talks.
