With a focus on curbing plastic pollution, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) concluded its week-long celebration of World Environment Day 2025 on Thursday with a grand closing ceremony at the MT Hostel premises, Koylanagar. Themed “Beat Plastic Pollution”, the week featured a series of awareness campaigns, competitions, and community engagement programmes, culminating in a tree plantation drive, the launch of an environmental magazine, and a prize distribution ceremony.

The closing ceremony commenced with a tree plantation programme led by the company’s top management. Inspired by the leadership of CMD  Sameeran Dutta, directors  Muralikrishna Ramayya (HR),  R. K. Sahay (Finance),

Sanjay Kumar Singh (Technical), and  Manoj Kumar Agrawal (Planning & Projects) planted saplings, reinforcing the message of sustainability and ecological responsibility. Following the plantation, the dignitaries jointly unveiled the 22nd edition of Paryavaran Darpan, BCCL’s annual environmental magazine. The publication, a longstanding platform for highlighting the company’s green initiatives and environmental outreach, has played a pivotal role over the past decade in communicating BCCL’s commitment to eco-conscious practices.

On 4 June, as part of a sustainable lifestyle campaign, jute bags were distributed to employees. Addressing the occasion, Director (Technical)  Sanjay Kumar Singh encouraged personnel to embrace environmentally friendly habits and reduce plastic use. Simultaneously, awareness activities were conducted across various BCCL areas including Bastacolla, Lodna, Sijua, and others. These included rallies, presentations, workshops, and competitions, all contributing to the overarching theme of reducing plastic waste. The “One Tree in Mother’s Name” initiative also witnessed widespread participation across the regions.
