The battle of supremacy between the administrative head and defacto head of elected representatives of Ranchi Municipal Corporation has pushed development works behind schedule. Despite signs of normalcy returning to the municipal body development works are unlikely to come back on track.
The tussle between chief executive officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya has affected the tender process for construction of drains in the municipal area. According to sources, allocation of funds became the real bone of contention between the two thus pushing the tender process beyond schedule by more than one month. However, sources in the RMC confided that things are reverting back to normal.
“The issue has been resolved and tender is likely to be issued in next few days,” said the source. Interestingly, while the entire administrative setup of the municipal body is tightlipped about works getting hampered apparently due to the battle of one-upmanship the elected representatives headed by the Deputy Mayor has thrown wild allegations over the CEO alleging him to be the biggest obstacle in the urban haat and vending zone. While the vending zone is getting overly delayed because of unknown reasons construction of urban haat is yet to take off.
“We had brought funds for vending zone and urban haat but no tender has been issued for urban haat,” alleged Vijayvargiya. The acquisition of map has stuck due to administrative hurdles. The RMC has envisaged expediting map clearance process by bringing in software however the much talked software is yet to be purchased by the municipal body. Notwithstanding, differences between the CEO and Deputy Mayor day to day operations were carried out without any hurdles. “The news about the city becoming a heap of garbage because of the tussle is wrong,” said a Ward Councilor requesting anonymity.
