Battle of nerves begins between JSCA, HEC

The notice of Heavy Engineering Corporation limited (HEC) to Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) to vacate the International Sports Complex at Dhurwa expired on Tuesday leaving both sides to explore all means to meet their ends. As the deadline ended the deadlock is far from over and both sides are firm on their stand.

The HEC had served eviction notice to the JSCA on July 4 asking the latter to vacate the premises in one month. The PSU, however, is yet to make move in the direction and is weighing all options to take control of the facility.

“We will not do anything in a hurry. Whatever we do, will be as per the law. Wait and watch for few more days. We will let everyone know what we will do,” said PRO HEC Hemant Gupta.

According to sources, the JSCA shot off a letter to the HEC in the last week of July to express their position on the accusations but the letter blitzkrieg failed to placate the honchos of the PSU.

As the HEC appears unrelenting on its stand of sending the JSCA out of the stadium lock, stock and barrel, the cricket association is likely to move court to thwart attempts of the HEC.

“This is not just a small piece of land. We have been given it for certain number of years. We have given them the answer. Now the court will decide who is right. If they (HEC) stay adamant on their stand then we take legal route,” said General Secretary, JSCA, Rajesh Verma.

The JSCA once again emphasized that they have not violated the terms of the contract and also asserted that the nature of the land given has not been altered for purpose other than cricket. The cricket association once again dismissed the allegations of the HEC.

The HEC had issued three notices to the JSCA, two of which sought the JSCA to address few concerns raised by the PSU and finally served the contract termination notice for not complying with previous letters. Incidentally, allegations and counter allegations brought the fissures between the two bodies to the fore.

The PSU accused the JSCA of hiding facts related to ticket sales, leasing out the facility for marriage ceremony and not honouring the clause of the contract that makes HEC entitled to match passes near the pavilion. The JSCA had blamed the HEC for spoiling Ranchi’s chances of getting a match of ICC T-20 World Cup scheduled to be held in 2016.
