Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) today announced its candidate for Dumka bye-election. Basant Soren, younger son of party supremo Shibu Soren, has been nominated as the party candidate from the seat.
Addressing a press meet at the party headquarter on Thursday JMM General Secretary cum Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya announced it formally that the junior Soren will be the party candidate from Dumka State Assembly constituency. On October 12, Basant Soren will fill his nomination papers, he added.
It may be noted here that, CM Hemant Soren won the election from two seats-Dumka and Barhet in the Assembly elections held in 2019. After winning both the seats, he left the Dumka seat and retained Barhet. Since then it has been speculated that his brother Basant Soren will contest this seat. Basant has been continuously active in the field with JMM activists. Basant is Jharkhand Yuva Morcha (JMM), Chief.
It is noteworthy that bye-elections are to be held for Dumka and Bermo Assembly seats in Jharkhand. While JMM is in the fray from Dumka, the other partner in the coalition Government, Congress will contest from Bermo seat.
The bypoll necessitated for Bermo seat due to veteran Congress leader and six time MLA, Rajendra Singh’s death. Singh won the election from the Bermo Assembly seat.
Voting on both seats will be held on November 3. While the election results will be announced on 10 November. The result of the election of Bihar Legislative Assembly will also come on this day.
Bhattacharya said that on the demand of the people of Dumka and the JMM workers, Basant Soren has been made the party's candidate for the bye-election. JMM chief Shibu Soren and CM Hemant Soren have confirmed Basant's candidature.
Bhattacharya has expressed the hope that Congress will soon announce the candidate's name for the bye-election for the Bermo Assembly seat. After this, the entire Grand Alliance will fight this bye-election and will also win both seats. He said that the grand alliance of JMM-Congress-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) will make this by-election historic.
Bhattacharya said that all the central leaders of the party and the leaders of the parties involved in the grand alliance will go to Dumka and Bermo and conduct intensive campaigning.
