Barracks in police lines may be named after slain cops

Director General of Police, Jharkhand, DK Pandey want barracks in the police lines across the State to be named of the cops who died fighting extremists!

Sources said the DGP wants the names of the slain cops and police officials to be remembered forever and the naming barracks in the police lines come handy after them for their remembrance. Sources said extremists use to raise memorial for their lost comrades and reserve a week for their remembrance. Here a dead cop comes living in a barrack said sources.

Taking a cue from DGP D K Pandey's plan the DIG police Palamu Saket Kumar Singh made a start this Saturday in latehar police line.

DIG Saket told The Pioneer from latehar 'Our DGP wanted us to baptize the barracks with the names of the slain cops and officials. We did it first in latehar police line. Here are four barracks. Each of the four barracks will be known by the names of the slain brave hearts who laid down their lives battling extremists'.

Asked the DGP D K Pandey's  idea is most novel as one has seen library, class rooms and streets going by the names of the big and the powerful but here a cop killed by the naxalites is so to be remembered DIG Saket said ' This shows the love and concern of the DGP. '

DIG reminded that it is DGP Pandey who evolved the idea of a common mess in police line sans any caste tag.  Mess in police lines were known by the caste of the eaters in the mess like Rajput mess, Brahmin mess, Bhumihar mess, Dalit mess, Muslim mess.

Saket taking pride said 'let me tell you about latehar police line that has the distinction of starting the first ever casteless mess in the police line here and now the barracks identification by the names of the slain cops'. Sources said both the ideas of DGP first a casteless mess and now this barrack to be known by slain cops' names have been carried out by DIG police Palamu Saket.

Saket further said the inner roads in the barracks here will also be known by the names of the slain cops. DIG had a community lunch with the members of the slain cops families here on Saturday. More than two dozen members of the families of the cops partook the lunch and shared the same food that DIG partook. The lunch was a pure vegetarian.

Retired cops and police officials drawing pension in this latehar district were invited and honoured by the DIG. These veterans have been requested to impart training and share knowledge of combat with the fresh bloods . DIG said ' These retired cops are the well head of experience and if they agree to share it will be a tremendous help to the young cops'.
