Banks assure uninterrupted ATM service during holidays

Much to the relief of the revellers, who might be apprehending hindrance due to cash crunch in bank ATMs during Durga Puja, bank authorities have assured that there will not be any shortage of cash during the festive season as ATMs will function as usual and arrangements have been made to refill the cash if required.

Apprehension of ATMs running out of cash will be duly taken care of by bank authorities who claimed that the two day holiday on Wednesday and Thursday would not hit the ATM services in the city.

“As cash filling and refilling work in the ATMs have been outsourced to the private companies, two day holiday is hardly going to hit ATM services in the city. All ATMs in Ranchi will work like any other day and people will not have to face any problem,” assured Senior Manager and Nodal Officer State level Banker’s Committee (SlBC).

Moreover, to deal with the threat of running out of cash during holidays, cash pit is largely filled with currency notes of higher denominations so that service could be provided to more and more people, added Moitra.

“As an ATM has a maximum limit of only 25-40 lakh depending on its size, notes of only higher denominations are put into the ATM pits to deal with access demand during festive seasons. It might be possible that you may not get a 100 rupee note from it as it is filled up with Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes in it,” said the Nodal Officer.

Meanwhile, the district administration has also been asked to co-operate and allow the cash vans to enter into the no-entry zones during Durga Puja. “As vehicles are not allowed to enter everywhere during Puja, generally cash crunch is seen on the main road from Sujata Chowk to Piska More, hence a request has also been made to the administration to co-operate,” he said.

A Senior Official of State Bank of India also asserted that proper planning to tackle such problem has already been done. “It is in very much in our knowledge and we are all concerned with the problem. Alternate arrangements have already been done to meet with the challenge. There is no need to panic as there will be no problem during Puja,” said the SBI official requesting anonymity. There will not be a bar on cash limit, he added.

It will be normal like any other day as special arrangements for cash refill has been done in case an ATM runs out of cash, said the SBI official.
