A case of theft at an ATM of a public sector bank near Sujata Chowk turned out to be fake where a security guard was falsely implicated the banks officials.
On Friday morning a theft case at an ATM on Club road was reported by the bank officials and subsequently a complaint of a missing emergency battery was lodged with the lower Bazaar Police Station.
During the investigation process police arrested the night security guard and found that an emergency battery was missing and the ATM door was found broken. Police left the security guard and informed the bank officials about the incident and requested them for CCTV footage but the bank was found to be helpless and instead of providing the footage, the bank officials requested police to withdraw the case and not to take
any action.
“When the security guard was interrogated it was found that the security guard was not provided with the details of assets he will responsible for guarding. The room where battery was kept usually remains locked and the keys are kept by the maintenance staff,” said Pramod Pandey, Station in-charge lower Bazaar Police Station. Bank officials had alleged that since the security guard was employed by a Delhi based security agency and which has sublet the contract to a city based security agency, the
security agency and the guard are fully responsible for the incident.
Interestingly, the CCTV footage was not provided by the bank to the investigating officer despite repeated request by the official.
Meanwhile, a Cyber Defence Research Centre (CDRC) official revealed that the CCTVs in most banks do not work hence innocent security guards become easy prey in cases of theft.
The official informed that these types of cases are becoming a serious issue and are taking place regularly so to stop all these Public Sector Banks should step forward and try to follow the RBI guideline which is not being followed.
The CDRC official also informed that several workshops are already been arranged for the banks and now state level workshops for the bank officials will be organised very soon to help banks in controlling ATM and related crimes.
