The Branch manager of Union Bank of India, Chhatibariatu Branch, Santosh Kumar Sharma and assistant manager Ajit Kumar Bodra has been found guilty of making fraud with the customers. They transferred about `10.70 lakhs from the customer’s account in their own account. A team of senior officials of Union Bank of India investigated the matter and has suspended both with immediate effect.
Some days ago some customers of Chhatibariatu village of Barkagaon block had sent a complaint to the regional office of Union Bank of India that huge amount has been transferred from their accounts without their knowledge. During investigation it was found that the amounts were transferred in the account of assistant manager Ajit Kumar Bodra with connivance of branch manager Santosh Kumar Sharma.
Both officials transferred `2 lakhs from the account of customer Yadunath Sao of Chhatibariatu village, `7 lakhs from Parvati Devi’s account, a resident of Pagar village, `50000 from the account of Basunath Munda of Jordaag village, `30000 from the account of Anandi Munda of same village. A customer Basudev Munda told the senior officials of the bank that Bodra has taken `40000 from his account as loan saying that he needs money for his daughter’s marriage.
Other transfers were made without the knowledge of account holders and when the customers wanted the detail of amount transferred both manager and assistant manager refused to give them the number and branch of that account in which amount was transferred.
The cheated customers made several visits to the branch and have hot discussions with both officials. When they failed to get any information from the branch they made a joint complaint to the regional office. Regional office responded quickly on this complaint and sent Deputy Regional Manager Niranjan Kumar to Chhatibariatu who found the complaint correct and both the officials guilty of making fraud with the
customers.
Senior bank officials of Union Bank of India said that both have been suspended immediately and now departmental proceeding will start against them to terminate them from service. Meanwhile assistant manager Ajit Kumar Bodra who seems to be the main culprit managed to escape and he is now traceless.
