Palamau MP Kameshwar Baitha (JMM) on Sunday demanded a special package of Rs 500 crore for tackling drought in the district, saying it is inevitable due to deficit rainfall in June-July. He hopes to raise the issue in Parliament.
Baitha said he would invite a Central team to Palamau to see for themselves the state of the parched fields. Painting a grim picture of the power scenario in the district, Baitha said he would also bring it to the notice of the Centre, along with the slow pace of constructing the National Highway. The MP was accompanied at the Press conference by a power department official, who briefed the media about the situation.
Baitha, who was a Maoist earlier, explained that Naxalism must be destroyed at the root, by ensuring development in backward regions. He said the movement would die a natural death in the presence of progress.
