Babulal Marandi bags JVM chief's post again

The two day long conclave of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) at Chadwa, Hazaribagh concluded on Sunday with the announcement of re-election of Babulal Marandi as president of the central committee for next three years. Now he will constitute the new executive and till its formation the old body will function as it is.

As expected on the second day of the conclave the formality of election of new president started with the filing of nomination by party supremo Marandi.

No one came forward against him and then the declaration of his unopposed election was made. Addressing the party workers Marandi said that it is good to have a wish to fight election but don’t become ill of it because there are only 14 parliamentary and 81 assembly seats here. He once again appealed to all his workers to go to the people and seek one opportunity for the party to serve them.

Earlier last late evening the political resolution of the JVM was passed unanimously by the workers in which an attempt has been made to clear the party’s stand on both national and state issues and some promises has been made if the party comes into power.

On the front of national issues the party wants CBI to be free from Government control, strong lokpal and lokayukta, strong actions against border encroachment. It also blamed the Center on the issue of Sarabjit’s extra judicial killing in a Pakistani jail.

Party also opposed privatisation of Government enterprises and demanded special status to Jharkhand with an economic package of Rs50,000 crores for its proper development.

On State issues the party has promised to fight for the displaced, labours, para teachers and against corruption and has demanded to double the Assembly seats.

It has made some promises like creation of super specialty hospitals at every divisional headquarters, irrigation facility to at least 50 per cent agricultural land of the State.

Enquiry into all reported scams and punishment to the culprits, giving more power to elected local bodies, to solve the problems of road, electricity, education, health, drinking water etc. on priority basis, electrification of villages, effective solution of displacement and increased opportunities of employment to the people if the party will come into power.

In this two day long conclave more than 50 leaders of the JVM expressed their views. It was interesting that the leaders criticised BJP, Congress, JMM and others but no one said a sentence against AJSU. In the political circles this is in talks that JVM leaders have thus kept an option open of alliance with AJSU after the polls if they fall short of the magic number of 42 in the coming assembly polls.

The conclave is in the line of the party's all-out effort for elections in the State. Senior JVM leader said that it was on the verge of declaring names of candidates for all the 81 Assembly seats "well ahead of any party."

It has also made it clear that the JVM would not enter into any coalition.
