Chief Minister Raghubar Das defended the move of his Government for not enacting a stringent anti-liquor law in the State in the line of neighbouring Bihar, saying that the menace could only be removed through social awareness.
“Inebriation of anything is wrong. It is a social evil and widespread awareness could only do away with it. We have laws against witchcraft but still killings are taking place. Now, the women in the State have taken up the issue. The Government has also decided to award Rs 1 lakh to the panchayats who are declared liquor-free. We are for it but only law cannot make things happen in a democracy,” said the CM.
He also sarcastically attacked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and termed his move in the State nothing but a political gimmick. The issue was brought in the House through a private members bill by JVM’s Pradeep Yadav.
