Autos bring back traffic snarls on city roads

Published on:

The autos were back on the roads of the city on Tuesday and the increased traffic jams in different areas was its testimony. The auto-drivers took back their indefinite strike on Monday bringing much needed relief to the hundreds and thousands of commuters of the city but were unable to skip the major role played by them in increasing traffic jams across the city.

“I took an auto from Kantatoli to Ratu Road and it took me more than half an hour to reach such a short distance due to the jam created by the auto drivers and the city buses,” said Madhu Agarwal a resident of Katatoli. On one hand, the commuters were happy that the three wheeled public transport mostly used by them for travelling was back on the roads of the city, after staying away from it for the last 4 days where as on the other hand, they were unhappy with the traffic jams that killed their precious time.

The traffic remains much smoother when the auto rickshaws remain off the road, said Traffic SP Rajiv Ranjan on the second day of the auto strike and it was proved on Tuesday when the city was busy struggling with the traffic. It will be wrong if the autos are said to be solely responsible for the jams in the city but government busses also contributing to it especially in the areas like Katatoli and Ratu road, said a commuter.

“These jams take place as the auto and city bus drivers park their vehicles    wherever they feel like,” said Wakil Yadav a 58 year old government employee    in a tone of anger. By seeing the relief of the commuters on one side and the jam on the other it can be said that, by the autos coming back on the roads of the city, the heart of the public transport have started beating again but, at a slower rate.
