The post-mortem examination report of Ichchita Singh, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room on Thursday night, confirmed that it was a case of suicide. She decided to end her life following a dispute which erupted over phone with her school time friend Manish Agrawal. The police also confirmed that Agrawal has been brought to Ranchi for further interrogation.

“Postmortem reports which we received today confirmed that it was a case of suicide and she had no injury mark on her body,” said City DSP Shambhu Kumar Singh. Meanwhile, the viscera, which has been preserved by us will be sent to the Forensic Science laboratory by tomorrow for further investigations, he added.

He said that Manish has also been brought to Ranchi to know the facts behind this suicide as he was in regular contact with the girl and had also talked to her a few hours before she committed suicide.

Sources in the police department also confirmed that the Ichita used to talk to Manish daily several times.

“On Thursday also, they talked to each other at around 7:30 pm following which Manish called another common friend at around 8:00 pm asking her to check whether Ichita was up to taking some extreme step but she could not go there following which the girl was found hanging in her hostel room which was locked from inside,” said a senior police official requesting anonymity. Moreover, no injury mark has been found on her body as was being reported by some media houses, he added.

The police official also confirmed that records of the chats which took place between them on social media also confirmed that some dispute was going on between them due to which she was quite upset and had been feeling a sense of insecurity.

“Manish Agrawal brought from Palamu may prove to be a key person to put some light which may help us further to investigate this case,” said the officer.

Ichita, preparing for her medical entrance, was found hanging under suspicious circumstances in her hostel room in Ranchi late on Thursday night, which prompted her father to lodge a murder case against the coaching institute that allegedly arranged accommodation for her and her old friend Manish Agrawal.

Police said that she skipped the 7pm — 9pm library visit telling her friends that she would rather study in the room alone. When her room mates returned around 9:30 pm, they found the room locked from inside.

When the girl did not respond even after several knocks, hostel warden was called who peeped inside the room though a window on the back side of it and found her hanging from the ceiling fan with a towel. The girl was immediately rushed to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences where doctors declared her brought dead.

Since no suicide note was found in the room and people who took the girl to hospital did not inform the police immediately about her death raised doubts over the death of the girl.
