In a bid to produce more Olympian from Jharkhand, South Eastern Railway (SER), Ranchi Rail Division (RRD) is giving a new facelift to its old Astroturf hockey stadium at Hatia in the State Capital.
Chief Public Relation Officer, Kumar Avnish informed that Ranchi Rail Division is going to provide various facilities to Players and audience by face-lifting the old Astroturf hockey stadium situated at the Hatia railway stadium to ensure that more players can represent Olympics or other big events from the region.
While explaining about the reason Kumar said that, when the daughters of Jharkhand made their mark for the Indian women's hockey team in the Olympics, the Railways also started remembering their stadium. “The hockey stadium of Hatia has been equipped with the facility of Astroturf by the Railways. Despite this, National and international level matches are not being held. Some shortcomings remain. After the feat of Jharkhand's daughters in the Olympics, brainstorming has started on the plan to further upgrade the Hatia stadium,” he added.
“The size of the Astro Turf Stadium will now be bigger. Along with the national tournaments, international hockey can also be played here.
At present, due to the lack of all facilities in the stadium and being small, even the national games are not regularly hosted. But now the gallery of the stadium will be extended. Its blueprint has been prepared by the Railways,” said Kumar.
The Chief PRO said that the seating capacity in the gallery will be doubled. “This will benefit the match lovers and more than a thousand people will be able to enjoy the match simultaneously. At present around 500 sports lovers are able to enjoy the game. But people will be comfortable with the changes in the new system,” he added.
“The number of rooms will be increased from two to five. At present there is only a two room facility for the players. In such a situation, players find it difficult to stay. But, now this will not happen. If the number of rooms is five, the whole team will be able to stay. The number of rooms would have been increased so that the players would not face any problem in staying together, he added.
The Railway is putting all its effort to make greater India to in every field be it sports other and now saying that it will be proved one of the most fruitful stadium of the State, said Kumar.
