Assault victim 'loses voice', struggles for life

The assault victim whose insane lover slashed her throat and stomach in a locked car on the road to Pithoria in Ranchi over rejection of his marriage proposal has lost her voice a couple of days ago. Adding more agony to her life the family of the girl is also facing financial worries as they are without any support from anybody.

The 20-year-old victim is now battling for life with infection spreading in her neck and stomach that underwent a massive 22-hour surgery at the State-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on December 28, 2014.

“The doctors at RIMS supposedly gave an overdose of antibiotics and took away the voice of my child. I have rushed her to this private hospital for a better treatment and running out of cash. There is no one in the family who can come ahead and help us and none of the authorities now seem to be bothered about the chances of her survival. My child is suffering for no reason and might not be able to speak ever again,” said Seema Rai (name changed), mother of the victim, who is the only support of her daughter.

Rai added that the doctors have asked her not to disclose the loss of voice to her daughter in fear of causing her further severe damage. “We have been lying to her that the loss is just temporary and will soon be back to normal. The doctors have strictly told me that the news can give her a shock and complicate her already critical condition. Her stitches has led to infection and now, I have been advised to take her to the Christian Medical College, Vellore for further treatment. I do not know from where I will be able to arrange the money required.  I only wish someone in the Government comes forward to help us and save her,” added the harrowed mother.

Narrating the chain of events that led to the tragedy, she said about a week back while she still was able to talk, “The winter evening of December 28 in the dark lanes of a road that led to Pithouria, he knocked me back in the front seat with the back of a sharp-edged knife and started cutting my throat slowly…and the ordeal continued for about an hour wherein he also stabbed me in the stomach, but what a scene it was where I started having black outs when I saw blood spilling out from my throat on the windshield and everywhere inside the locked car.”

What happened thereafter was another chain of events that is still blurry in her mind wherein she only remembers her mother screaming in tears and soon the news of the crazy lover jumping off the third floor of the hospital followed.

Meanwhile, the nurse attending the young patient at the private hospital maintained that the girl is not out of danger, yet and might not be able to survive for long.

“She is in a lot of pain and requires pain killers throughout day and night. We are trying to follow the doctor’s instruction to our best level but she needs to be shifted to a better hospital where she can be cured. But for that her condition needs to be stable first and that is what we are trying to gain for her here,” said a nurse on the condition of anonymity at the city-based hospital.

The victim looks deeply aggrieved by the tragic incident that has struck her and her mother but only smiles with silent words on her lips saying she wants to live and not die that looks more like a soft prayer to God.
