Assault case: JVM leader's house raided to arrest kin

Police raided the house of senior Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) leader Abhay Singh at Kashidih in Sakchi at the wee hours of Tuesday to arrest Abhay’s two brothers Dilip Singh and Nirbhay Singh.

Both Dilip and Nirbhay along with their four associates are accused of forcibly entering into their neighbour Kanti Gupta’s house on Saturday and assaulting the women members of the victim’s family.

In this connection, the police have registered a case of assault, and misbehave against Dilip Singh, who is elder brother of the JVM leader, the younger brother Nirbhay and four unidentified associates on the FIR lodged with the Sakchi police station by Kanti Gupta, wife of Rajesh Gupta.

According to the FIR, on Saturday Dilip and Nirbhay along with four others stormed into the house and started abusing them.  Kanti Gupta, Jaya Gupta, Rima Gupta and elderly women Shakuntala Gupta were manhandled by them.

According to a member of the Gupta family, one of the victims had on Sunday approached the Sakchi police station for lodging a complaint, but the police did not listened to the complaint and returned them.

Peeved over by the attitude of the police, the victims approached to Chief Minister Raghubar Das and shared their agony. It was only after the intervention of the Chief Minister that the police accepted the complaint lodged by Gupta and prompted to register a case.

Officer-in-charge, Sakchi police station, Gopal Singh, said that a case has been registered against Dilip Singh and Nirbhay Singh beside their supporters.  Moreover, we have raided the house of the accused, but they have absconded,” said the officer-in-charge.

Abhay Singh is party’s central secretary and had contested the 2014 assembly elections on the party ticket from the Jamshedpur East constituency.

When questioned over police case, the JVM leader Abhay Singh said the police must investigate and take necessary action against my brothers if they are proved guilty. He said that it is a democratic country and any one can file FIR.

Meanwhile, sources informed that after lodging the FIR Kanti Gupta and her family members have gone away to an unknown destination after locking their house. They are in fear of backlash from the accused persons as the latter are very influential.
