ASP allays fears for summons against 'innocents'

Following reports of serving notices to some of the dead as well as innocent persons in the Doranda communal tension case, Ranchi Police has decided to first get the case examined by a senior police official and then act against those who were actually involved in stirring up the crowd.

As many as 72 people have been served notices in this regard out of which two are already dead while the other three others are minors. They have been charged of propagating communal tension.

"As of now, only notices have been given to these people asking them to appear before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate from where their names will be immediately stuck off from the list, if their involvement was not found in the incident," said ASP Hatia Prashant Anand.

"I have been asked to do supervision in the case and find out the actual culprits so that action could be taken against them," added the ASP.

The police, however, do not consider it as a mistake and believed that whatever action ought to be taken in the given circumstances was taken by the police in order to control the situation.

"As our primary goal was to control the crowd, it was the need of the hour to take such a stringent step. Name of the suspects on the basis of the old records was prepared and notices were served to them directing to appear before the SDM failing which warrants will be issued against them," said the ASP.

Referring to the notices issued against some of the minors, Anand said that there have been several occasions where minors have been held in stone pelting, and hence it will be too early to comment on that until and unless the report comes in this regard.

He, however, said that the administration is quite sensitive over the minor issues and action will be taken against any of them only after examining the case properly.

SDO Amit Kumar, on the other hand, clarified that since the case was in its primary stage, responsibilities will only be fixed after hearing both the sides.

"let the accused persons first appear before the court, they will be given ample time to prove their points; action will be taken only if charges were proved against them," the SDO said.

Those who have been served notices also include the names of Haider Ali and Muslim Gaddi, who are already dead.

A notice has already been issued against a 78 -year old Haji Tahir Hussain, who is not even able to move on his own. Three minors have also been served notices charging them of stirring up the crowd.

Section 144 was imposed in few parts of the State capital on September 25 following clashes between two groups in some pockets of Doranda area in Ranchi.

A few people sustained minor injuries but the situation was later put under control by the police. The clashes erupted after prohibited meat was thrown outside a temple by some unknown miscreants.

According to police, as many as 52 people have been arrested so far in this regard.
