Padma Shri Ashok Bhagat along with the office bearers of All India Tana Bhagat Committee will lead a day-long ‘calling attention Satyagraha’ for Government of Jharkhand at Chingri in Bishunpur block of Gumla district on January 30, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Hundreds of Tana Bhagats, struggling for their rights of their land since several years, will assemble at the birth place of Jatra Tana Bhagat in Gumla and observe day long fasting to show their protest.
“I will join Tana Bhagats in their struggle and observe a day long fast along with them. Through Satyagraha, I will also talk to them and try to know more about their problems during the day,” said Bhagat.
Tana Bhagat movement was started by Jatra Tana Bhagat at Chingri Navatoli village in Bishunpur block during the year 1912.
“Even though several political parties took the initiative to help them but could not succeed in solving their problems,” said Bhagat. Neither their state was being developed as per their dreams, he said.
Bhagat further added that Tana Bhagats are gradually turning into minorities day by day while the state needs to be run according to their basic principles of Truth and non-violence.
In principle, the state government was concerned about the land of the Tribal people, but nothing concrete is being done in this regard, he said.
