As Sone river recedes, hopes of farmers in Palamu rise

People of three panchayats living an the banks of the river Sone in Hussainabad sub-division heaved a sigh of relief as water in the swollen river has started receding fast. Hussainabad BDO AK Munda said more than four feet of water has receded in Sone on Sunday. More such receding is expected if it remains dry, he hoped. Munda reminded that Sone was in spate and was 4 feet up the danger mark in the recent past.

However with the receding of water farmers of three panchayats namely Dangwar Bareypura and Daruwa Kalan situated on the bank of the river Sone have time now to look at their losses of farming of paddy. About 35 to 40 farmers of all these 3 panchayats have born the onslaught of the flood in Sone. Their farm lands spread in huge acres were filled Sone water. Munda agreed that about a dozen kachha houses in these three panchayats too have been destroyed/damaged in the flood of the river Sone.

On Tuesday revenue personnel of Hussainabad circle would reach these three panchayats to evaluate the losses and damages of the paddy cultivation due to flooding of farm lands by water of the Sone river added Munda. There is a confluence of two rivers at Dangwar Koyal of Jharkhand and Sone of Bihar. Sources said when Sone is in spate the Koyal gets cramp in its belly since its discharge of water in to Sone gets difficult.

The river Sone had swelled because of release of water from two dams one each in MP and UP recently. Munda said people living at higher places have a strong will not to leave even when they are marooned by Sone water. Recently just half a dozen males living at there touched the soil at Dangwar.
