Arteries remain choked with One Way traffic plan

Major routes of the Capital City on Saturday remained choked in spite of the presence of traffic police personnel at main points. Traffic jam continued to haunt city residents even after adopting some change in the new route chart plan to curb the traffic snarl along the major routes which was enforced from April 1.

After the strict orders from Jharkhand High Court (HC) to mainstream the traffic system and to maintain the arrangement that was made during the Global Investors Summit, the traffic police department had prepared a detailed proposal by adopting one way route system from Dangra Toli Chowk to East Jail Road.

Notably, to ease the traffic congestion, the traffic police department has also formed four traffic squad teams to deal with the traffic jam at these points. However, the existing system failed on the first day itself even after making special arrangements for public comfort.

“As major chunk of human resource is engaged in President’s visit preparation so on the first day commuters had to suffer. At present, one enforcement squad team is at work whereas the rest three teams will take the charge from next week. Some additional 10 people will also be added in the squads. However, for the success of any plan public co-operation is needed,” said, Traffic SP, Sanjay Ranjan Singh.

“The one-way route has been adopted on an experimental basis. After checking its feasibility, the one way plan will be adopted for other major routes. However, for commuter’s convenience, public service announcement system has been set up at ten points where the new route plan has been adopted. Traffic personnel will assist the public where one-way route is adopted,” added the Traffic SP.

Similarly, Traffic DSP, Dilip Xalxo, said, “It will take some time for the people to get acquainted with the new traffic system. In an attempt to curb traffic jam, this is one major decision that was taken and it was mandatory to do so,”

In order to manage the traffic at one-way route, the traffic department has planned to deploy few more constables who will assist the traffic enforcement team squads in clearing the traffic jam and will also check that no vehicles are parked along the road side for easy penetration of school buses and other heavy vehicles.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Parents Association, Head, Ajay Rai said that several school students had to suffer in scorching summer after the adoption of alternate traffic plan. Students who avail bus facility from lalpur, Dangratoli, Purulia Road, Tharpakna, Jail Road are the worst suffers and has urged to the Traffic SP to keep school buses free from this new plan. Traffic SP has assured Rai that he will re-think over this proposal.
