Voting for Jharkhand’s biggest trade body; Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) started on Sunday. Voting will continue for the next two days till September 28.

During the three days of exercise starting Sunday around 3,480 members will elect 21 candidates out of 35 in the fray.

The first day of voting passed off peacefully with no untoward incident reported.

On the first day, the voting was for serial number 1 to 1400, however, out of total registered voters around fifty per exercised their franchise on the first day.

According to FJCCI, election committee chairman Lalit Kedia on the first day of election 789 voters whose serial number was from 1 to 1,400 voted.

Kedia further said that on Monday the voting is for serial number 1401 to 2480.

Meanwhile, the FJCCI and district administration had made elaborate arrangements for voting following Covid 19 protocol. Wearing masks, use of sanitisers was mandatory for members.

The FJCCI officials along with the district administration team were on toes during the voting. The Chutia police were busy making arrangements for parking facilities. Members exercising their franchise had to take their token number from the first floor, while voting was at the third, fourth and fifth floor of chamber bhawan.

The election is for choosing 21 members, these elected 21 candidates who form the executive panel, will thereafter choose seven office-bearers from themselves who would run the Chamber for next one year.

The office-bearers consist of the president, two vice presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries and a treasurer. They will choose the successor of Praveen Jain Chhabra who is the present president of the Chamber.

Last year the election could not take place due to Covid 19 pandemic and a group of office bearers, nominated by the trading community, is at the helm of affairs at present.

Hectic backroom management was going on by the stakeholders namely Dheeraj Taneja, Dr Abhishek Ramadin, Kishore Mantri and others who are mobilising support.

As the election is held amidst pandemic, the FJCCI had made some changes such as unlike previous years when voting was done on a single day. This time the voting will be held in three days.

The other changes, which have been introduced in the Chamber’s election this time is that candidates will not be allowed to campaign within 100 metre radius from the voting centre on the day of voting. No candidates will be allowed to put up banners and posters near the voting centre. The results will be declared on September 28.
