Army expertise to save Tricolour at Pahari temple

When no solution to maintain the world’s tallest tri-colour hoisted at Pahari of Ranchi looks in sight, all eyes are on the help from the Army.

Especially at a time when it has caught attention of people across the State and Chief Minister Raghubar Das has  mentioned that the Government has limited role to play in this.

“The flag is maintained by the Pahari Mandir Vikas Samiti and the Government has no role to play into their affairs. The flag is getting damaged due to height and speedy wind. However, an Army General had met me and I had discussed the problem with him. He has some experience to manage such (high mast) flags. Some suggestions have come up and we would apprise about those to the Samiti,” replied the CM to a question asked by Congress’ Sukhdeo Bhagat in the House on Monday.

The world tallest flag atop Pahari Mandir has been damaged several times and underwent change by the Samiti at great cost. Despite using parachute-like material the Tricolour again got damaged and unfurling there in partially mutilated condition. BJP MlA Nirbhay Sahabadi also intervened questioning the logic behind round the clock display of the national flag.

Notably, the tallest National Flag was unfurled at the Pahari Mandir with much pomp and show in a grand ceremony attended by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in January this year. The falg was said to be made of parachute material, which would never be damaged and get torn.

However, the flag has been damaged many a times after it was first unfurled. The Pahari Mandir Vikas Samiti also said that the flag would be replaced as soon as possible and they have a number of spare flags but even a week of it getting damaged the flagpole is yet to get the flag.
