The officer in-charge of the Balumath police station, A Tiwary, has confirmed the casualty of the driver in this firing by armed men. According to police, there were were 4 or 5 men wearing unifom similar to a Naxal splinter group.

On being asked for the identity of the raiders, the police officer said ‘It is being found out’. However, he conceded that the way this assault was made at the CCl owned colliery, was the handiwork of the splinter group of the Naxals.

The truck driver was waiting for his turn of coal loading when this assault occurred. The Sources said Balumath was once the hub of the CPI maoists, but in the recent times splinter groups like JlT, JJMP have filled in the vacuum there.
