Eight bike-borne criminals robbed `6 lakh from petrol pump staff at gunpoint on Monday morning while they were en route to a bank to deposit the money. Four employees of Shambhawi Fuel Centre, located opposite MECON township near Satellite Chowk, were transporting the amount in a car to the bank. Eight armed men on three motorcycles surrounded the car near MECON Rose Garden. They then tried to open the car’s doors.
“Stopping the car after threatening us with firearms, they started banging on the doors, demanding that we open them. We resisted for some time, but had to open the doors later, following which the robbers grabbed the money bag and fled,” one of the employees was heard saying.
Police officials arrived at the crime scene and questioned the bystanders. “The exact number of culprits is yet to be ascertained, as the employees were a little shocked, but there were at least six to eight criminals. We also have got our hands on some CCTV footage of the incident and are working on it. Search is on for the culprits, we will catch them soon,” stated Assistant Superintendent of Police (Hatia) Prashant Anand.
