It seems that being in headlines has become a habit of present Vinoba Bhave University administration. In the month of January 2016 VBU always remained in news either for good or bad reasons and it looks that it has prepared to continue it by making the background of another controversy which will keep it in news for the days to come.
January started with the news of approval of the President to be the Chief Guest of VBU’s 7th convocation. On January 9, President Pranab Mukherjee delivered the convocation speech here and laid the foundation stone in front of an under construction building having written that President inaugurated the first phase of this building but later removed it when the news spread.
In the meantime, campus started heating up with alleged irregularities in the appointment of B Ed teachers. Two days ago, VBU quashed all the notifications regarding appointment of B Ed teachers. This matter is still hot because now the protestors are demanding action against all those involved in this
irregularity.
Now, The Pioneer is in a possession of a notification cum advertisement of VBU having reference no. 4681/16 dated 19.01.2016, which came only on the website of the university. Through this advertisement, VBU administration has sought application for the post of Principal In-Charge for constituent colleges from its in-service professors and associate professors. The last date for submitting application was 25th January and the upper age limit for applying for this post was 60 years.
When enquired, most of the teachers of VBU are unaware about the notification. The post of Principal In-Charge is not mentioned anywhere in Jharkhand State University Act and appointment can be made only by any appropriate authority like JPSC. So the question arises, on what capacity VBU has issued this notificationIJ Whether it has taken
permission from the Chancellor Office and state governmentIJ As per notification, VBU has promised to pay the allowances as per university rule.
In VBU most of the professors have crossed the age of 60 years. Hardly one or two professor will fulfill the criteria. In associate professor rank not a single promotion has been made yet. Some are on the post of Reader which is equivalent to it but their number is very small in comparison to the number of vacancies.
All the universities of Jharkhand are facing the problem of shortage of permanent principals. In their place as per tradition work is going on by appointing senior most professor or reader everywhere. But here the VBU administration is trying to break the tradition and people have started smelling foul play in it.
