Delhi Public school Ranchi unfolded a sporting session upholding the true spirit of integrity as the school celebrated its Annual Sports Day with great enthusiasm and zest. The school was decked up with vibrant colours giving an attractive look. The magnificence of the day was made stronger by the gracious presence of Padma Bhushan recipient VK Shunglu, Chairman, Delhi Public Society, New Delhi as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honour of the event was Prawin Mala Hemrom CGM (P&A), SAIL UNITS Ranchi & Pro – Vice Chairperson, DPS Ranchi.
The students of Classes Nursery to XII participated in various sports events. The programme began with the rendition of welcome song by the school choir group followed by the bouquet presentation to the esteemed guests by Principal, Dr Ram Singh. He also extended a warm welcome to the respected luminaries and gave a glimpse of the marvellous achievements of the school.
The Chief Guest unfurled the school flag. A spectacular march past by the students of all six houses — Sutlej, Chenab, Jamuna, Jhelum, Ravi, and Ganga -- was presented in complete unison. The NCC Cadets also displayed their bold-hued persona during the parade which was highly appreciated by the Chief Guest. The Head Boy of the School led the oath taking ceremony in which all the students pledged to inculcate the sportsman spirit within them. It was followed by the declaration of the meet open and lighting of the torch by the Chief Guest.
The School Band performed with their instruments leaving the gathering electrified and awe-struck. The audience was entertained through various enchanting dances and graceful presentation of aerobics by the students of classes VI to XI and a scintillating display of yoga. The audience witnessed the groundbreaking and energetic performances by the students.
The much-awaited track and field events including 100 mt, 200 mt, 800 mt and 3000 mt flat races, 4x100 mt relay along with high jumps, long jump, shot put etc were a part of the sports event. The relay race reverberated with enthusiastic cheers and applause from the spectators. The air was filled with cheering and loads of encouragement for the young and budding athletes. The primary wing students had some interesting activity races which heightened the spirit of the spectators. The winners of the various achievements were awarded by the luminaries with medals, trophies and certificates.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, VK Shunglu congratulated the participants on their enthusiastic display of talent and spirit of sportsmanship. He appreciated the competitive spirit instilled in the DPS students and encouraged them to pursue their goals with grit, determination and perseverance. He also wished them luck for their upcoming endeavours.
Guest of Honour Prawin Mala Hemrom was enthralled and appreciated the stupendous efforts of the students.
Principal Dr. Ram Singh delivered a motivational speech stating Sports is a hands-on learning experience to prepare students for the competition of life and leads them on their path to holistic development. Sporting activities also build team work, punctuality, discipline and sportsmanship in an individual. He motivated all the students to take part in sports enthusiastically.
