The Joint Committee on Safety, Health and Environment in the Steel Industry (JCSSI) organised its annual award function on Saturday afternoon at SAIl, RDCIS Auditorium.
The award function organised by SAIl Safety Organisation, Ranchi, was attended by S S Mohanty, Chairman, JCSSI & Director (Technical), SAIl, B B Mishra, Vice chairman, JCSSI & ED, SSO, trade union leaders P K Pandey, P Mukherjee, Rajendra Singh and B N Chaubey. The glittering Award Function was attended by management and trade union representatives of JCSSI as well as Senior officials of SAIl units at Ranchi.
In his welcome address, B B Mishra stressed on the need to meet organisation’s objectives by all members and expressed the hope that the members will come out with constructive suggestions which will ultimately help in improving safety standards. The chief guest of the function, S S Mohanty, Chairman JCSSI and Director (Technical), SAIl highlighted about the need to learn from accidents. He further elaborated on thorough accident investigation that will be fact finding.
Trade union leaders P K Pandey, P Mukherjee, Rajendra Singh and B N Chaubey also gave their valuable views towards improving safety standards. A total of 45 awards under different categories were distributed amongst winning member organisations. Essar Steel, Hazira bagged the prestigious ‘Ispat Suraksha Puraskar for No Fatal Accident’ for the year 2013 amongst integrated steel plants.
The function concluded with a vote of thanks by S K Soren, Member Secretary, JCSSI & DGM (Safety), SSO. The committee will have a detailed meeting at MTI, Ranchi on 20th July wherein important issues on safety, health and environment will be deliberated upon by the member organisations.
The JCSSI is a unique bipartite forum at the national level having representation of management and trade union representatives (65 nos.) from 20 member organisations involving public and private sector steel companies like SAIl plants & units, RINl, Tata Steel, Essar Steel, JSW steel, Bhushan steel, Visa Steel, Neelachal Ispat, Mecon, MN Dastur Co. etc.
