The Ministry of Women and Child Development has started a new Regional Centre of the Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development in Ranchi today. Union Minister Annapurna Devi inaugurated the centre in presence of attendees, including state ministers and local MLAs.
The establishment of the Regional Centre in Ranchi represents a pivotal advancement in the decentralization of capacity-building efforts within the Eastern region of India. Previously, states in the Eastern region faced challenges in accessing dedicated training facilities, often relying on centres located in Guwahati and Lucknow.
This centre will specifically address the training and research needs associated with the Ministry’s flagship programmes, including Mission Shakti, Mission Vatsalya, and Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister Annapurna Devi said that the initiative taken by the WCD Ministry in starting the new regional centre will mark a major step in decentralising capacity-building efforts and improving service delivery in the Eastern region of the country. This will also provide a major boost to the development of Women and children and pave the way for a better future, and accomplish the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The new regional centre will cater to the training and research needs of several initiatives like Mission Shakti, Mission Samarthya, Mission Vatsalya, Mission Saksham Anganwadi, Navya and Poshan 2.0 schemes, keeping the cultural diversity of Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal states intact.
Annapurna Devi mentioned that the new Regional Centre will also offer an Advanced Diploma Course in Child Guidance, Vocational training and Counselling to provide enhanced training to officials and frontline workers. She also said that 7 hostels for working women will be established in Jharkhand, out of which 2 will be present in Ranchi.
The new regional centre will play an important role for four states - Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha.
The minister said that the Ranchi centre would help implement central government schemes effectively in these four states. Minister of State, WCD Savitri Thakur, MoS Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, Hatia MLA Navin Jaiswal were also present on this occasion.
Previously, states in the Eastern region faced challenges in accessing dedicated training facilities, often relying on centres located in Guwahati and Lucknow. This reliance posed logistical difficulties for field-level workers who needed immediate access to resources and training. The new Ranchi Centre will eliminate these barriers by bringing essential infrastructure closer to those who need it most. By enhancing the capacity of local workers, the centre aims to improve the delivery of services at the last mile, ensuring that women and children receive the support they require.
The Ranchi Centre’s establishment is a significant step towards improving service delivery in the region. It will provide a much-needed resource for training and development, enabling local workers to implement government initiatives more effectively. This shift is expected to lead to better outcomes for women and children, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and empowered community.
