Distressed over her husband’s will to settle in Gujarat, a 25-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Bandh village under the Pirtand police station area of Giridih district on Sunday afternoon. The deceased, identified as Urmila Devi, wife of Naresh Singh, was a mother of two.

Soon after getting information, local police visited the site of the occurrence and looked into the matter.

During the investigation, the villagers as well as the deceased’s family revealed that Urmila was protesting her husband’s decision to go for employment in Gujarat, police said.

The incident came into notice only after Urmila’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who had gone to see-off Naresh to the nearest bus-stand for Dhanbad, from where he would depart for Gujarat by train, return to their home at around 1: 30 pm.

"Night before yesterday, the couple had heated conversations in this regard. Actually, she wanted her husband to earn his livelihood somewhere in Giridih or adjacent areas. But he was rigid on his decision to go for employment in Gujarat", said Urmila’s mother in-law, Basmati Devi adding that both had an exchange of words even on Sunday morning.

"As soon as we saw her lying on the bed, we called upon other villagers and took her to the nearest government hospital, where she was declared brought dead”, she added.

"The dead body has been sent to the Giridih Sadar hospital for autopsy and an FIR has been lodged in this regard," OC, Pirtand PS.
