The anglers of the steel city will vie for the ‘prize catch, at the scenic Jubilee lake at Jubilee Park here on annual JRD Tata Fishing Competition. The Jamshedpur Angling Club is organising their annual contest on July 28 at Jubilee lake. The fish lovers from Odisha and West Bengal will also participate.
“We have contacted the anglers from West Bengal and Odisha and they have accepted our invitation. We have planned to organise this year’s affair in a larger scale,” said an official of the club established in 1947. General secretary of the club Geoffery Bonjour said: “This year we are honoured to have SHIMANO which is the leading fishing equipment manufacturer across the world to be our principal sponsor. The SHIMANO brand is over 80 years old and this is the first time they have been involved in this kind of sporting event in this region.
To ensure the participating anglers have a good catch the Jubilee lake has been closed for angling from the July 18 to July 28 so that the fish are hungry. At the recently held annual general body meeting of the Jamshedpur Angling Club Geoffery Bonjour was elected the General Secretary while Nasim Khan was elected the Assistant General Secretary. Shedding light on the logistics of the competition, the JAC secretary said that one who catches the maximum fish in terms of weight would be declared the winner.
Established in 1947, Jamshedpur Angling Club now has 162 members. Jusco has recently undertaken beautification projects of lakes at Jubilee Park, Beldih and Bara Flats near Sidhgora. “We also release fingerlings in the lakes during the month of July and August. This way fish of different classes are found in abundance in city lakes,” added another official.
