The female companion of legendary Anarkali, who breathed her last only last week, Rakhi has fallen in love with an semi-adult elephant who is from interiors of the famed Betla National Park. Caretakers of the wild animal adobe said that on Saturday the tusker approached Rakhi and the two started taking strides deep into the jungles.
However the lovebirds' attempt to flee alerted park personnel who raised their noise and forced the male elephant to leave the tusk of Rakhi which he had grabbed. Confirming the love sage Ranger of the PTR Nathuni Singh said, "One male elephant did make this attempt to take down our Rakhi to got her inducted into its herd. life of the female elephant would have been in danger as Rakhi was going there after being among humans. Sudden change of habitat like this is generally unacceptable to elephants."
The Ranger further added that the male loiter first tried to attract the mournful Juhi, another 36 years companion of Anarkali, but when she "declined his offer" the male elephant cast his eyes on Rakhi who just could not understand this and started walking down with the pachyderm.The official moreover took delight in saying that his people averted the love affair from turning bloody.
He moreover did not rule out more such attempts from coming and geared up for becoming more and more protective in future. The elephants in captivity the PTR have to venture out every day for their fodder or for taking the tourists for a ride where chances their coming into contact with outsiders cannot be ruled out.
Rakhi's mother had died following the thunder and lightning that struck Park a few years back and since then Rakhi is brought up by the personnel of the Park. This orphan elephant was christened as Rakhi as on the day of Rakchha Bandhan she was rescued and brought down to Betla.
Sources said the episode has alarmed the Park officials as Anarkali used to act as guardian of Rakhi. Although Juhi is there but she is too saddened following the death of Anarkali and she is in no position to act as guard to Rakhi.
