AMDER to carry exploration in Dumka for atomic minerals

Published on:

Atomic Mineral Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMDER) is set to carry scientific investigation to trace-out atomic minerals at Tantloi locality in Dumka district as AMDER believes that there is a vast deposit of uranium and other atomic minerals at Tantloi that needed to be tapped.

Sources familiar with AMDER said that AMDER has proposed to carry drilling up to 5000-meters deep at the selected spot of Tantloi. AMDER which is part of the department of atomic energy has set a target to complete necessary drilling and scientific analysis in 10 months of time.

Sources said that other than Tantloi, drilling work will be undertaken at Bakreshwar which falls under Birbhum district of West Bengal.

Tantloi is situated about 35 km from Dumka district headquarters under Ramgarh block. The locality which is part of Bakreswar-Tantloi geothermal region is known for as many as five geothermal springs. While this is one of the tourist destinations of Santhal Pargana; about two decades back the place was included under the National Helium Conservation Programme.  In 1999-2000 the department of atomic energy had set-up small infrastructure as the department has found an out-flux of large scale helium having purity up to 99 per cent.

So far in Jharkhand mining of atomic minerals has been taking place at Jadugora in East Singhbhum which has a rich deposit of the world's finest uranium ore and magnesium diuranate.

Other than Dumka, AMDER, in the next phase, may also carry similar intensive explorations in Garhwa district where there are two localities Karake and Chundi that are believed to contain Migmatite/ Granite type of uranium.
