Are you interested in watching decorative structures made of aluminium this Durga pujaIJ If yes, then RR Sporting Club has something special for you. Eastern India’s first aluminium and asbestos made pandal is being built here for worshipping Maa Durga and other deities.
About 75 artisans from Midnapore are working on an artistic pandal where the exterior and interior parts of the pandals will have aluminium made maa kali’s face, maa Durga’ face, peacocks, ajanta, elephant and cartoon characters sticked to an asbestos layered wall.
Interestingly, 1,000 small bowls and 1,000 small pots made of aluminium are being pasted at the edges of this pandal to give a reflecting effect to the chandelier lights placed in the middle of the pandal.
“It took us two months to draw the design of our imaginary pandal at Midnapore before beginning the construction here from August 1. Our main motto is to build something which attracts all the age genres. Till date no such aluminium has been made in this entire region,” Head Artisan Soitana Bera said on Friday.
“The chandelier will be the only source of light used inside the pandal,” he added.
A school boy observing these artists busy at their work felt it is not an easy task to carve idol structures out of aluminum sheets. “I am wondering how this concept can be imitated for a class project,” said the school boy.
Engineer Debobrata Bera supervising the artists said the unique pandal will help the organisers in preventing two different situations. “Our pandal will be water as well as fire resistant. In this way, devotees and organizers can visit the pandal in heavy rain or in any other harsh climate conditions,” Soitana Bera said.
To support the aluminium look, artists are using more wooden sticks than bamboo. Engineer Bera said that wood sticks would give a solid back support to the structures attached to the wall. “We hope to complete the pandal by August 27,” mentioned the artists.
