All-women post office soon in Ranchi

After Jamshedpur and Dhanbad, the third all-women post office in Jharkhand will be unveiled at Ranchi in a couple of months. The ongoing elections have compelled the postal department officials to fix the inauguration date after May 16, when the result of lok Sabha 2014 is to be announced.

For past one month, three women employees are deployed at AG Bihar post office of the state capital wherein the entire office will be transformed into women post office. Speaking about the plans for this “soon to become women post office”, a senior officer of Ranchi General Post Office (GPO) requesting for anonymity on Friday said, “The civil and electrical works are still pending here as most of us are busy in the ongoing elections besides the implementation of core banking system in each post office functioning within the state. The elections are probably the main reason for postponing the inaugural date. Overall four female employees including a senior post master is to be settled at this AG Bihar post office.”

However, the present male clerk heading this post office along with the three women employees said that they have not yet received any notification on converting this bank exclusively for women. “As of now the AG Bihar post office is trying to demonstrate itself as women oriented bank,” a staff at Post Master General’s office mentioned. Notably, the postal services here apart from being restricted for women customers will be same like other post offices of the country such as registry, e-post, monthly income schemes, national saving certificates and e-money order.

The women post office is an added advantage for females residing in Ranchi since the first all-women banks were opened on July and March. Another initiative was running of pink autos by women drivers for females since the month of February. On August 7, chief post master general of Jharkhand circle Abhay S Prasad had inaugurated the first all-women post office at Sakchi in Jamshedpur and there after at Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation building in Dhanbad's Jagjivan Nagar.
