Traffic on NH-33 linking Jamshedpur to capital Ranchi came to a stand still for nearly three hours as AJSU activists hit streets to form human chain demanding special status for state.
Around 50,000 AJSU supporters participated in it holding hands in certain stretch of the NH-33 leaving gap of nearly a kilometer in between thereby defeating the move of a human chain. Jugsalai MlA Ramchandra Sahis and other East Singhbhum district enthusiastic party leaders participated in it.
“The human chain symbolises the fact that the demand for special status is not just a political agenda, but a people’s movement. Jharkhand meets all the eight yardsticks under Gadgil Formula for being considered for the special status. The party has struggled for the formation of a separate state,” said Sahis.
East Singhbhum district Ajsu spokesperson Kamal Agarwal admitted of problem in NH-33 due to the human chain agitation but blamed district administration for failing to manage the traffic.
He also said that heavy rainfall reduced attendance of party supporters at certain stretch of NH-33 for formation of human chain. The agitation for special status will conclude with a programme-Jharkhand lok Maha Panchayat-- to be organised on February 11 next year at the Moharabadi ground in Ranchi on the occasion of Baba Tilka Manjhi jayanti.
Peeved at the Centre for not considering Jharkhand to accord special status along with Bihar, the party announced a series of programmes to drum up public support demanding a special economic package for the State.
