AJSU wants Govt jobs for 'khatiyan' holders

AJSU party on Saturday announced that it will continue with the decision to protest against the amendments made in CNT and SPT Acts.

On day two of the three-day mega conference, organised here, party representatives coming from across the State gave their nod to the stand taken by the party on domicile policy and amendments brought in the CNT-SPT Acts.

Talking to media persons at ‘Birsa Nagar’, AJSU spokesperson Deosharan Bhagat said that the party’s decision over the next course of action will be announced during the open session on Sunday.

“The amendments brought in the Acts will have far-reaching repercussions on Adivasi-Moolwasi population of this State which will put a direct impact on their identity, cultural values and self respect,” said Bhagat.

“Party representatives coming from different parts of the state have been expressing their views on the subjects given to them and have outrightly rejected the changes made in the two land acts and the locals’ policy announced by the State Government,” he added.

“We believe that it is one of the biggest decisions taken by any of the State Governments in the country so far,” said Bhagat.

“The party, on the issue of domicile believes that there must be some provision so that only those candidates get selected at state and district level, who have a piece of land in the name of their forefathers in the last survey records,” Bhagat said.

“Whereas, in the appointments made through JPSC and SSC, weightage must also be given to knowhow of regional and tribal languages and determining some marks in the written and interviews,” added the spokesperson.

“While in the appointments made at the district level, there must be a provision of written examination and interviews in the local regional or tribal language which is prevalent in that district,” he said.

Issue of giving 27 percent reservation to the backward castes was also raised during the conclave. Party workers were of the view that even though backward castes were more than 50 per cent of the total population of Jharkhand, they are getting merely 14 percent reservation in jobs and education which was not justified.

They demanded that the reservation to the backward castes must be increased from 27 percent by removing 50 per cent cap from the total percentage of reservation keeping the percentage of reservation of ST and SC intact.
