The AJSU party on Tuesday criticised the national political parties for not pressing Jharkhand’s case on special status with the Central Government and warned them for maintaining a stand which the party thought was contrary to the principle on which the State was formed. The party on Tuesday took to the streets to vent their ire against purported injustice done to the State and protested at district headquarters across the State.
The AJSU supremo Sudesh Kumar Mahto questioned Congress’ central leaders’ purpose of visit to Jharkhand and efforts made especially in the wake of special status to Seemandhra, the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.
“I welcome their visit to the State however when it came to giving special status they failed to deliver. I warn national parties that in the coming elections people will think about an alternative to them for failing to ensure special status to the State,” said the former Deputy Chief Minister.
The party has already announced statewide bandh on March 2 to register their protest with the State government. The party expressed anguish at central government policies that hitherto ignored the demand of special status.
“Seemandhra gets special status within 24 hours of its creation however Jharkhand has been denied the status. Our fight is more than 100 years old and we will take it any,” added Mahto.
The party’s call for state-wide bandh has been supported by political parties across spectrum however the party did feel shy of holding MPs from State partly responsible for not arguing Jharkhand’s case with the Centre.
