Former Jamshedpur MP promised to bring like-minded parties on a common platform
Former Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar has resolved to bring in all like-minded parties to counter BJP in the State ahead of the Assembly election likely to be held later this year. Kumar, who was in Jharkhand Vikash Morcha, will formally join Congress Party on August 22 at State Congress headquarter at Sadanand Marg in Ranchi. AICC general secretary and State-incharge BK Hariprasad and State party president Sukhdev Bhagat will be present on the occasion.
The 51-year-old former IPS and chief executive officer of Delhi-based Max Neeman (a drug research company) who arrived in city after resolving to join the Congress said that his main priority would be to help bring like-minded parties together to fight against ‘divisive politics of BJP’.
“I have chalked out plans to bring in a sea change in politics. It would have distinct colour of different parties having similar ideologies but ensure representation of all section of the society. Parties like Congress, JMM, RJD are already running the government and JD-U has recently joined the alliance (UPA). We plan to bring AJSU and JVM on the same fold. I am very hopeful of positive results in the days to come,” said Ajoy Kumar who will be announcing formally his joining of Congress on August 22.
“ I have carried a study on the lok Sabha polls and have found that the BJP polling percentage is 30 per cent. If we manage to harness the remaining 70 per cent it is clear who will have the edge over the others in the assembly elections. We don’t believe in dividing our aim will be to work for moolvasis and non-moolvasis, minorities and tribals. A proposal has been given to the different regional parties and now it is for them to accept it keeping in view the interest of the State and their party’s stake,” said Kumar who lost to BJP’s Vidyut Baran Mahto in the general elections.
Riding on a strong wave of Narendra Modi coupled with Kurmi vote card, the BJP candidate Vidyut Baran Mahto trounced Kumar to clinch Jamshedpur lok Sabha seat. The BJP candidate registered his debut in Parliament by defeating Kumar by a margin of 99874 votes.
While the Jamshedpur by-election was held on the first of July 2011. Arjun Munda, the Jamshedpur MlA, vacated the seat to become the BJP’s Chief Minister. Kumar won by a huge margin, over 1.5 lakh votes, a margin even larger than the chief Minister Arjun Munda, who had earlier held the seat. As Superintendant of Police, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur, from 1994 to 1996, Kumar too had taken down big mafia and drastically cut crime.
