BJP leader Ajay Rai was elected as president of Ranchi wholesale clothes dealer employee union at the union meeting held at Duke Mansion, Line tank road. The union on the occasion also elected Devanand Rai as union general secretary. The other members include Umesh Prasad as vice president, Ravi Kumar aka Rajan Kumar as association organization secretary, Ranjit Mahato as joint secretary and Mukesh Gupta as treasurer.
In the meeting several important decision were taken for members’ welfare. The meeting started with members presenting the income statement of last months, details of audit as well as other important points including review of work were discussed in the meeting.
On being elected president, Ajay Rai said that in this corona pandemic, the situation of the employees has worsened; the union will try to provide facilities to them. The arrears of, bonus, PF, ESI, and currently salary is not being received properly, the union officials will meet the officials of the labor department with this issue in coming days. Rai said, “In this corona pandemic we have come to know that many staff working in wholesale cloth shops have been terminated from service. Also the staffs who are working are on salary cuts. Employees’ salary has been cut to 30 to 40 per cent. “
The staff financial condition is very poor as they are facing tough time to meet their day to day expenses. Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in almost zero revenues for a majority of fashion brands, who are now looking to sell their inventory, cut down on discretionary spends and even layoff staff to stay afloat.
The garment industry in Jharkhand is already in bad phase. Shops selling clothes and footwear opened their outlet much later only in June last week.
Sources said textile industries in country is going to affect a lot as there could be as many as one crore job cuts in the textiles sector, which has been severely hit by the ongoing lockdown. If the garment industry closes down, it would impact the entire value chain from fabric supply industry to brand to the zipper and label industry.
