New Acting Director of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dr Shamim Haider is ready to strengthen the security arrangement within the campus as a first step to restrict the entry of bad elements. He may go for changing the present security agency associated with the institution. In an interview to The Pioneer on Tuesday, he shared how he will try to restore normalcy at the premier medical institution.

You are Head of Preventive Social Medicine department. How will you handle the additional charge of Acting DirectorIJ

Government has given me a responsibility which I will try to execute properly. I will hold meetings with Heads of all Departments to understand their problems. Also, I will obey the decisions taken by Health Minister and Principal Secretary Health.

What about developing the premiere state medical cradleIJ

Instead of adopting a new development model, my main aim is to improve the existing development activities taking place at different parts of the campus and maintain it.

CM Raghubar Das had instructed to ensure security within the campus. How are you looking forward to implement the orderIJ

There is certainly a need to follow the directions of Chief Minister. Bad elements are often seen roaming unlawfully. The rising number of patients is leading to overcrowding. I would strengthen the security system. If required, the present security agency providing hundreds of guards may be changed.

How will you solve problems of the inconvenience of hostellersIJ

I will surely make efforts at my level to re-create the ambience in hostels which prevailed during our under graduation days here from 1971-75. We used to feel homely in the hostels. Similar ambience is required.

Protests by students and staffs are common at RIMS. How would you tackle such situationsIJ

RIMS fraternity is like a family to me wherein I am the Mukhiya. I am directly associated with each kind of student and staff. In order to avoid protests, it is important to first discuss and seek a solution to the problem. Steps to curtail protests would be taken.

Pathological laboratories of Medall Health care are listed to be established in RIMSIJ Are you in favour or against the proposalIJ

Some are against it. I cannot comment unless I go through the official papers of Government’s MoU with Medall Healthcare for establishing one among the 12 pathological laboratories in our hospital.
