After failed initiative, RJD rebels look for new house in Jharkhand

Leaders and workers of Rashtriya Janata Dal (Loktantrik) are now exploring the possibility of merger of their party preferably in the Congress as their own internal assessment suggests that the party they had formed right after the parliamentary election last year has no future.

RJD (L) is the breakaway faction of the RJD headed by veteran leader Gautam Sagar Rana. A section of the party turned angry after party president Lalu Prasad unceremoniously removed Rana as president of Jharkhand unit of the party within two months he had taken charge. He was replaced by Abhay Singh as president.

RJD (L) unsuccessfully contested some of the seats in the 2019 Assembly election in Jharkhand.

“Things are not working as planned and there is hardly any possibility that the party can emerge as a political alternative in Jharkhand. During the Assembly election Jharkhand Congress in-charge RPN Singh had offered us to merge RJD (L) in the Congress. But that time it was too early to accept any such merger proposal,” said a senior office bearer of the party.

Party insiders said that despite they developed party organization at the district level they are now facing a crunch of resources to mobilize the party.
