Under the aegis of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) and the Border Security Force (BSF), the 20- team members of the Great Indian Women Desert Safari have begun their specially designed training programme at Bhuj, Gujarat. Bachendri Pal, who was the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1984, will be the leader expedition.
This is in preparation of their 2,000-km long journey across the salt desert on camels starting this month. The team consists of 20 women, 14 selected by Tata Steel Adventure Foundation and six by the Border Security Force.
The team will spread the message of women empowerment, peace and solidarity besides highlighting the importance of education and development along the border area.
The endurance and perseverance of these women will be symbolic to the community. The members will also interact with the villagers throughout the expedition.
The safari is scheduled to conclude on March 24 and will have its own story of excitement and challenges to narrate to the world.
This unique event will be a befitting tribute to the BSF and its 50 years of glorious existence of serving the nation.
Currently undertaking the training, Bachendri Pal, Chief, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, said: “The ongoing training for the members will help not only boost their confidence but also prepare them well for the Dessert Safari along the border terrain. We are all thrilled to be part of this initiative and will ensure that the goodwill message is conveyed through this journey. We are thankful to the Border Security Force for all the arrangements inclusive of logistics and training and for being a part of this Safari with the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation.”
Ml Batham, In-charge of the expedition said: “We are very pleased to have Ms Bachendri Pal as the mentor for the group.
