Aeromodelling training takes off at State Hanger

The Jharkhand Aeromodelling Training Institute has added wings to the dreams of enthusiasts interested in learning flight technology and ways to control flying machines without getting onboard. Around 80 people, mostly students, have enrolled for the flying courses since the institute started. The institute started in February.

The institute provides training on Check Glider, Catapult Glider and Controlled line Power Glider and will commence training in Toeline and Freeflight soon. The institute is maintaining a fleet of 30 Check Gliders, 30 Catapult Gliders and seven Controlled line Power Gliders and is in the process of acquiring another two categories of gliders from Jaipur. “Courses have not been regularised. We are awaiting police verification report of those who are above 18,” maintained Capatin Balwant, in-charge of the training institute and official of the State Hanger.

The training module has been broadly divided into two categories — students, hobby members and employed — with the objective to unleash the potential use of ground controlled gliders for professional purposes. The officials of State hanger believe that the prototypes can be used by professional photographers or camera men to reach inaccessible areas and capture events without risking their lives.

“The basic idea is to inculcate interest in unmanned aerial vehicles besides apprising a common man the potential use of these ground control machines. They can use prototypes of flying machines for taking photographs of inaccessible areas,” said the official of State Hanger. Notably, the training institute backed by Civil Aviation department received green signal in the month of January. The institute run in the premises of State Hanger provides training on constructing the prototype before allowing one to try hand on flight controls. It takes around a week’s time to prepare a prototype.

“First, we teach students to construct the prototypes so that they can understand the aerodynamics of planes. That expedites the learning process,” maintained an official. Incidentally, the institute has designed modules — basic, advance, life membership for adults, hobby members and SC/ST — with fee slabs ranging from 100 to 250 across the categories.
