A three-member team of Atomic Energy Regulation Board (AERB) on Tuesday sealed X-ray units of two private clinics for running those machines without licence and asked the owners of the clinics to fulfil the formalities of obtaining licence to operate. The team had arrived here on Monday to verify compliance of regulations that empower it to issue licences for running scanning machines.

The team issued warnings to Sai Nursing Home and Shyama X-ray asking the nursing homes to get licence within one month to avoid further actions. The three-member team of the board led by Scientific Officer, BK Singh had sealed three X-ray units of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday. The team visited four private clinics on Monday. The team led by Singh comprised Pradeep Kumar and HG Deshale.

“We inspected machines at four private clinics. Two were found flouting regulations, so we sealed those machines and warned them whereas two units were operating with valid license. The team will come back after one month to ascertain compliance,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, the RIMS administration switched into fire-fighting mode as three X-ray units were sealed by the team while similar fate awaits additional 10 machines after the AERB’s team cautioned the premier hospital for running without those units without permission.

“I was not aware of this. It would not have happened, if I would have been aware of that. This is the responsibility of safety officer. Why it did not happen is something I would dig into,” said Director RIMS, Bl Sherwal.

Facing ignominious remarks by the AERB’s team, the government owned hospital has decided to hold a high-level meeting on November 19 to go into the source of the problem while at the same boasted of enough resources to meet requirements.

“Four units of X-ray machines are running as back up. There will be no inconvenience to patients,” maintained Sherwal.

Sources in RIMS confided that the administration is likely to ink pact with some agency to maintain higher standards of safety and quality of scanning machines.
