Former Deputy Prime Minister lK Advani is visiting here tomorrow to visit senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, presently lodged at Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh, adding teeth to the state-wide agitation for stopping power cuts, launched by the party’s state unit on Monday.
In the meantime, Sinha, arrested 13 days ago for allegedly assaulting an official of the JSEB on June 3, will spend another 12 days in the jail as the court extended his judicial custody following his refusal to furnish the bail bond.
According to party confidents, Advani will also try to convince Sinha to seek bail and join the bigger movement in the future being planned by the state unit of BJP.
They pointed out that the BJP patriarch is likely to request him to pay heed to party chief Rajnath Singh’s message that he should come out of jail as the state unit has initiated a bigger movement from today across the State for the issues which he has raised for the cause of the people. As the State Government has not given a serious thought to his demand to withdraw the case, a BJP insider said that Advani’s appeal may be a face saver for the senior BJP leader. “Sinha may come out of jail anytime after Advani’s visit on Tuesday,” he added. The newly elected MP from Hazaribagh Jayant Sinha said that ongoing agitation will get a new lease of life after Advani’s visit to Hazaribagh.
“Yes, definitely…. Advaniji being a national leader will definitely bring positive vibes among the party workers especially in Hazaribagh which is expected to continue till the upcoming Assembly Elections,” said Jayant Sinha.Jayant added that the ongoing agitation against the power crisis in the State has also sparked the other bigger issues like water crisis, failed law and order and rampant corruption in the government as it has completely failed to deliver even the basic requirements to the people of this State,” he added.
Meanwhile, the state BJP on Monday launched statewide protests against the erratic power supply in the State staging dharnas at divisional headquarters across the State, starting from North Chotanagpur
Earlier, party’s national vice president Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain had also visited Sinha in jail with a message from Rajnath Singh insisting him to come out of jail and join the movement. Sinha had also injured himself on June 13, after falling from the chair on which he was sitting broke its legs.
Sinha, 76, was arrested for leading a demonstration against power cuts on June 3. The group of party workers he was leading to allegedly tied up a senior electricity board official. The police intervened to rescue the official detaining Sinha and 50 others in the process. He was charged for assaulting a government servant and obstructing his work.
Much to the surprise of the police officials, Sinha then refused to furnish the bail bond required to secure his bail needed for his release. Sinha, once again on Monday refused to furnish the bail bonds. The case will be heard next on June 28.
