Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Champai Soren said that every year on June 30, Hul Diwas (Hul Diwas 2025) is celebrated in Bhognadih village of Sahibganj district, but this year the JMM-Congress government has harassed the entire village by not allowing the pandal to be set up. All the workers were locked in the police station at 1:30 in the night. This is an insult to the brave martyrs Sido and Kanhu. The whole of Jharkhand is protesting against this. There has been no development here. People from different states and the Sido-Kanhu Foundation have been called to discuss this issue for organizing the program.
Jharkhand has been the land of brave sons. The day the tribals here revolted against the British is celebrated as Hul Kranti Diwas. The war of 1857 is considered the first war of independence, but the brave tribal sons of Jharkhand had raised the flag of rebellion against the British in 1855 itself. Hul Day is celebrated every year on 30 June. In Jharkhand, the rebellion started from Bhognadih village of Sahibganj district on 30 June 1855 under the leadership of immortal martyrs Sido-Kanhu. The tribal community demonstrated its bravery with the slogan Do or Die, British leave our land. On 30 June 1855, 50 thousand tribals from about 400 villages reached Bhognadih village of Sahibganj. With this, the Hul revolution started. During the meeting, it was announced that they would no longer pay land revenue to the British.
On hearing the announcement of not paying the land revenue, the British got furious and ordered the arrest of Sido, Kanhu, Chand and Bhairav. They were not scared at all by this, rather they fought bravely. The inspector who was sent to arrest them was beheaded by the Santhals. To increase its revenue, the East India Company prepared an army of landlords, who started collecting rent forcibly from the Pahadias, Santhals and others. Due to this, they had to take loans from moneylenders. After this, the atrocities of the moneylenders kept increasing. Troubled by this, they started blowing the trumpet of rebellion.
The brave martyrs had led the rebellion against the increasing atrocities and discontent regarding rent. To suppress their movement, the British sent the army to that area and a large number of tribals were arrested. The bravery of these brave martyr tribals can be gauged from the fact that the British had to send the army to control them. Bullets were fired by the army. Martial law was imposed to control these agitators. Not only this, the British also announced rewards for the arrest of these agitators. Amar Shaheed Chand and Bhairav were martyred in the battle between the British and the Jharkhand agitators. It is said that they fought till their last breath. About 20 thousand tribals were martyred in this. On 26th July, Amar Shaheed Sido-Kanhu were hanged in Bhognadih of Sahibganj.
