Admission in State varsities to go online

Published on:

The admission process at State universities for both Under-Graduate (UG) and Post-Graduate (PG) courses from the academic session 2018-19 will go online. In an attempt to ease the burden of university personnel on major areas, especially to regularize the examination system and simplify the admission procedure, the Department of Higher, Technical and Skill Development has decided to introduce online services. Also, this is a major effort towards making universities ‘Paperless’ by 2020 as per the national target.

After the recent training of Ranchi University (RU) and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) personnel on different aspects ranging from maintenance of Chancellor Portal to understanding the know-how in carrying out the tasks online, the process of introducing online concept at the respective varsities for admission has begun. However, RU staffs have clarified that along with the online system; there will be also a provision for submitting admission forms offline.

“At present, the technical team has asked the varsity Heads to brainstorm on uniform fees structure to ease the admission procedure. Through common admission form, all eligible candidates can opt for the colleges in accordance to their preference. After scrutinizing the forms, in accordance to the merit, aspirants will be admitted in the particular college.

Candidates will have to give preference for at least eight colleges. The respective university will reserve the rights to publish the result while merit lists will be sent to the colleges,” said RU Officer (PR), Dr. Prakash Kumar Jha.

“In the recent workshop which was conducted by the Department of Higher and Technical Education in association with National Informatics Centre (NIC), the centralized portal will have all facilities. Besides the affiliated and constituent colleges under the respective varsities, all autonomous and minority colleges will be also linked with the Chancellor portal,” Jha further added.

According to the university staffs, the process of adopting online mode will be completed by the end of May. Apart RU, DSPMU, Kolhan University, others will be also adopting the online mode from this academic year. In the beginning, three main tasks will be carried out through online process which includes -- enrollment of students, registration and receiving examination forms that majorly involves submission of money, filling examination forms ahead of each semester exam.

Meanwhile, after the successful implementation of online medium for students’ welfare by the universities, data of all teaching and non-teaching staffs engaged at the university and college level will be also uploaded for online access. By December 2018, data of all university personnel will be made online. College Principal, Examination Controller and Registrar have been assigned the task of compiling the data of all staffs; passwords will be with these senior level officers for accessing the database of the college personnel, whenever required.
