Paramedics are considered to be the key players in the medical sector all over the world and there’s some good news to cheer up students and aspirants both in Jharkhand. The new Paramedical College of the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) is in its final stage of completion and would soon throw its arms wide open for students who want to take up the two-year Diploma in Paramedical Courses as their career.
The Director and Executive Chairman of the Jharkhand State Paramedical Council confirm the news as he proudly describes the new college. “The three-storied building that is nearing completion and would soon be going into a furnishing phase, which will also act as the new office for the Jharkhand State Paramedical Council which currently operated from my cabin here with just four staff. The admissions to various courses have already begun and we should be able to shift to the new building in a couple of months’ time,” said Dr Vivek Kashyap, Professor, Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM), RIMS.
Dr Kashyap further said that the four separate courses under paramedical science that used to be taught separately have been combined together as one particular subject from this year onwards. “All the previous courses remain the same except for the four courses in X-ray, CT-Scan, Ultrasound and MRI are not separate courses anymore but fall under the Radio Imaging course as one. This is aimed at making students more efficient and useful for the hospitals and laboratories as well as provides them with better employment opportunities. Without paramedics, the entire Health Industry is out of gear and is almost non-functionary and there is certainly an increase in demand for the same globally,” added Dr Kashyap.
Dr Kashyap also talked about the recruitment for faculty and staff for the college and council is all set to begin soon, too. “We have already sent out the requirement proposals and advertisements to the state health department and the exams and interviews are scheduled for February and March. There will be fresh staff recruitments for the council as well as the college and we are expecting to be able to open it in this academic year, most probably in a couple of months’ time,” added Dr Kashyap.
Dr AK Sinha, Coordinator for the Paramdeical College, RIMS said that the admission process for the various courses has begun with students showing increasing interest in the subject, off late. “There are nine different course apart from the Masters and Bachelors in Biochemistry such as the Medical lab Technician (MlT), Operation Theatre Assistant, Opthalmic Assistant, Dental Hygienist, Anaesthesia Technician, Radio Imaging Technician, ECG Tech, EEG Tech and Dialysis Technician courses and the six-month short-term certificate course for Dresser. There are 150 seats in total and the admissions are going on currently at the PMS section here. We have never fallen short of students and this year, with the news of the new college has attracted more number of students for the above mentioned courses,” said Dr Sinha.
Dr Sinha reiterated the importance of the paramedics in the country as well as globally. “Paramedics help the doctors in specialized areas and facilities for better diagnosis, treatment and therapy. The increase in number of patients, variety of diseases and the demand for immense treatment have paved the way for paramedical professionals who are expert technicians or therapists providing better quality towards human health care. Thus, this well-equipped state-of-the-art facility and well-qualified faculty will enable us to produce excellent paramedics from the State here,” added Dr Sinha.
